Our History

Faith Lutheran Church held its first worship service at 1125 Stafford Avenue on October 27, 2024. Although Faith is a new congregation, its story began many years ago.

Right side show the front of Zion Lutheran in Bristol. Middle part shows what the interior of the combined church, Faith Lutheran, looks like now. Three congregations served Bristol and Plainville with faith and dedication before merging into one: Grace Lutheran Church in Plainville, Zion Lutheran Church in Bristol, and St. Andrew Lutheran Church in Bristol.

Creating a Shared Vision for the Future.

As each congregation entered a time of transition, its members began asking an important question:

What could we accomplish together?

Each congregation reflected on its future and its mission. Then they formed a joint committee and began talking, listening, and imagining what might come next. Those conversations led to the birth of Faith Lutheran Church.

The Rev. Steven Wilco, former Associate to the Bishop in the New England Synod, described the journey this way:

“It has been one of the greatest joys of my ministry to see new ideas and energy bubble up in this process. This isn’t just the folding together of three smaller congregations, but new life rising from congregations that have reached the end of their faithful ministries.”

A Place for Everyone

From the beginning, Faith has welcomed people of all ages and stages of life. We gather to grow in faith, care for one another, and serve our neighbors. Following Jesus brings both joy and challenges. Through it all, we trust in God’s steadfast love and walk this journey together.

As a Reconciling in Christ congregation, we especially welcome people of all sexual orientations and gender identities, racial and ethnic backgrounds, abilities, and life experiences.

We believe every person bears God’s image. We believe every person has gifts to share. And we believe everyone has a place in our community.
